Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there lived a young girl named Rapunzel. She was known throughout the kingdom for her long, golden hair, which flowed like a waterfall down the tall tower she lived in.
Rapunzelâs story began many years ago when she was just a baby. Her parents, the king and queen, were filled with joy when she was born. But one day, a lonely and selfish witch appeared. She took the child away and named her Rapunzel after the plant her mother had once enjoyed eating. The witch feared losing Rapunzel and wanted her all to herself.
The witch raised Rapunzel in a tall tower deep in the forest. The tower had no door and no stairs, only a single window at the very top. Whenever the witch wanted to visit, she would stand below and call out,
âRapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair!â
Rapunzel would lower her long, golden hair, and the witch would climb up.
As the years passed, Rapunzel grew into a kind and gentle young woman. She was isolated from the world and had never seen another human besides the witch. Still, she filled her days with joy. She read books, painted pictures, and sang songs that echoed through the forest. Forest animals often visited her, and she named them allâWhiskers the rabbit, Feather the bluebird, and Fluffy the squirrel. They were her closest friends.
In a neighbouring kingdom lived a brave and kind-hearted prince. He had heard whispers of a girl with magical golden hair locked away in a tower. Curious and hopeful, he set out to find her.
One day, while riding through the forest on his white horse, he heard a sweet, beautiful song floating through the trees. The voice pulled him closer and closer until he stood beneath Rapunzelâs tower.
Rapunzel had never seen a prince before. When she looked down and saw him, her heart fluttered with excitement.
âWho are you?â he called.
âIâm Rapunzel", she replied. âIâve lived in this tower for as long as I can remember.â
The prince introduced himself, and soon he returned again and again. They talked for hours, sharing dreams of the world beyond the forest. Before long, they began to care deeply for each other.
One evening, the prince said, âLet me climb the tower so we can finally meet.â
Rapunzel hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
âAlright,â she said softly. âRapunzel, Rapunzel⌠let down your hair.â
A long stream of golden hair fell from the window. The prince smiled and began climbing.
Halfway up, something felt strange.
The hair suddenly slipped from his hands.
Then, without warningâ
It wasnât real.
It was a wig.
The prince plummeted from the tower and crashed onto the hard ground below.
Silence filled the forest.
Rapunzel slowly leaned out of the window and looked down.
âOh,â she said quietly.
Behind her, inside the tower, the witch sighed.
âI told you the glue wouldnât hold forever.â
Rapunzel shrugged.
âWell⌠thatâs unfortunate.â
The forest animals stared in shock as the wind carried the fake golden wig across the grass. And high above, in the lonely tower, Rapunzel calmly closed the window.
The End.
